What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive technology is any device that a student/client/patient can use to help them complete a task. This can be as simple as a pencil grip to a more elaborate computerized system to help control his or her environment. Assistive Technology is as vast a field as occupational therapy. As an occupational therapist, I feel that the two areas [OT & AT] merge perfectly together. For me, the best feeling in my job is watching the lights come on; when a student can do something independently that he or she could not do before. It is truly an AH HA moment.
